91����Ƶ’s Junior School students are ready to wow audiences with their staging of the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Over three performance nights from 21 to 23 October, students from Years 2, 4 and 6 will fill Bendigo’s Capital Theatre with vibrant characters, unforgettable music and a kaleidoscope of colour.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the dazzling tale of a young dreamer, told entirely through song. His journey of dreams, betrayal, and ultimate triumph is brought to life by a talented young cast who imbue the show with heart.

Director Mrs Butler-Rees describes the show as a celebration of hope and the power of imagination. “At its heart, the show explores themes of resilience, hope, and the importance of forgiveness.”

There is something for everyone in this musical. “The audience will enjoy everything from the playful mix of musical styles (from country to rock ‘n’ roll to calypso) to its energetic dance numbers, and the vibrant costumes that bring the story to life.”

Throughout the audition and rehearsal process, students have supported each other and embraced the chance to adopt new characters and polish their performances.

“One of the joys of this process has been watching the students grow in confidence with every rehearsal,” Mrs Butler-Rees said. “I’ve seen students who were a little hesitant at first suddenly light up when they found their voice in a song or nailed a tricky dance step.

“We are always in awe watching our students take on the challenge and journey of preparing for and performing in the production.”

Year 6 student Charles Smith, who plays the title character of Joseph, enjoyed the preparations and is looking forward to taking to the stage.

“I’ve never been a lead before,” he said. “The main thing I’ve learnt while being in the production is that everyone goes at their own pace – it won’t be perfect the first time.

“The best part of rehearsals is when everyone works together and it comes along well.”

Year 6 student Siofra O’Malley, who plays the Narrator, agrees. “I have liked how supportive and encouraging the whole cast has been to each other throughout rehearsals,” she said.

“I am excited about seeing all the different parts and dances come together.”

Mrs Butler-Rees expressed her gratitude to the 91����Ƶ staff involved in bringing Joseph to life.

“There is a dedicated team involved in directing, producing and promoting this musical. The students are incredibly grateful for their guidance and encouragement, and I thank them for their support.”
